Qualifications

Associate of Arts or Associate of Applied Science degree in Occupational Therapy/Physical Therapy preferred. 

Prior OT/PT experience desirable

Ability to communicate and work well with children with disabilities and educational staff

Bilingual in Navajo and English preferred

Required to assist students with restricted mobility

Job Goal

To provide support to  licensed occupational or physical therapist; to enhance the rehabilitation of Special Education students through individualized assistance.

 

Essential Duties

Assists with preparation of materials that enhance OTor PT therapy.

Assists with preparation of the physical environment and specialized equipment that address the special needs of students.

Assists with planning appropriate individual or group therapy programs  for all Special Education children.

Assists with student records/special reports.

Implements individual therapy and specialized assistance for students as specified in IEP’s.

Participates in activities that will develop positive interaction in the rehabilitative process.

Participates in in-service as required by the Special Education Department.

Maintains attendance and documents student progress using lessons plans, student logs, activity record sheets, etc.

Attends Multidisciplinary staffing and parent conferences.

Always maintains a confidential, professional attitude in working with disabled children, their parents, educational staff, and community resources.

Take responsibility for OT, PT, and Speech equipment.

Performs other duties as assigned by Therapists or Director of Special Education.
